Pegasus Bay Aged Release Riesling 2007 Waipara Valley, Canterbury

Gently golden and deep straw hues; the bouquet remain youthful with lemon and apple fruit aromas; there’s also a preserved lemon, dried pineapple, camomile and toasted honey notes from bottle age – overall quite complex. On the palate – off-dry, luscious and Delicious! Wow – amazing texture, concentration and flavours; bright and still highly energised acidity; off-dry with some residual sweetness and a lengthy honeyed citrus and floral finish. Drinking beautifully now and through 2028.

About Cameron Douglas

If you want a wine expert with unquestionable credentials who’ll pop the cork for you and suggest a perfect food pairing while telling you the story behind the bottle, Cameron is your guy.

Not only does he carry the Master Sommelier credential, but he earned it as the first in New Zealand and took out the trophy for the top marks – demonstrating that this Kiwi will stop at nothing to further his love of all things beverage.

Cameron is an experienced wine writer, commentator, judge, reviewer, presenter and consultant. He selects wine and is part of the NZ Wine Navigator team.

As a professional Sommelier, Cameron spends much of his time involved in education – academically in charge of the Wine and Beverage Programme at AUT University in Auckland, and ‘out in the field’, consulting for the Wine, Hospitality and Tourism sector, and the interested public. He is Patron of the New Zealand Sommeliers and Wine Professionals Association, and consults to a variety of establishments, taking care of their wine lists, wine and food pairing, and staff training matters.

His clients currently include Huami at Skycity, Merediths Restaurant, The Lodge Bar – Rodd & Gunn in Queenstown, Oyster and Chop, Mekong Baby, A’Meza, Nanam Republic, Crave Café – and he is on the Fine Wine team selecting for Air New Zealand Business Premier class.

In New York, he created and continues to consult on the wine list for Matt and Barbara Lambert’s Michelin Starred Restaurant The Musket Room (a showcase for New Zealand Food and Wine). The Musket Room was awarded its Michelin Star only four months after opening and continues to excite the public.

He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Court of Master Sommeliers Americas and is committed to being an instructor and examiner for the MS programme both in the USA and Oceania.

Tradecraft is a boutique agency that helps small producers who have a focus on supplying hospitality, navigate market communications both to the trade and public within NZ. Cameron’s qualification as New Zealand’s first and only Master Sommelier, adds an authenticity to any project he works on. As Tradecraft has a highly invested interest in ensuring we continue to stay in touch with the hospitality world, Cameron is a vital connection for us. Cameron works closely with a number of the Tradecraft clients, none more so than Antipodes Water Company. He has been responsible for aiding in the growth of Antipodes not only domestically but also in the American market through his consultancy and across social media platforms. There is a sense of loyalty when you work with Cameron but he retains a professional level of independence, ensuring that the integrity of the message remains intact.

More recently it has been my pleasure to judge with him at the Air New Zealand Wine Awards, where he was a senior judge from 2009 - 2015. Cameron’s thoughtful contribution to the judging process, with his unique Sommelier’s approach, has been invaluable. This was recognised in 2014 when he was promoted to panel chair, a role that he excelled in.
